String of thefts ends with Oak Bay arrest

Thefts at area post-secondary schools lead Saanich Police to Oak Bay

A series of locker thefts at area post-secondary schools led Saanich Police to Oak Bay last month.

In December, the Saanich Police Property Crime Section started an investigation after a series of thefts from lockers at the University of Victoria and Camosun College starting in late November.

The Saanich Police Forensic Identification Unit identified a suspect.

In mid-December Saanich Police Property Crime Officers executed a search warrant in the 2300-block of McNeill Avenue in Oak Bay. Officers recovered over $3,000 worth of items that had been stolen from both UVic and Camosun.

Constantin Martin Arthur Mitchell, 22, faces a charge of break and enter and two counts of possession of stolen property. He was released from custody on a number of conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 18.

“We continue to have an excellent relationship with both the University of Victoria and Camosun College,”

A/Sgt. Jereme Leslie said in a news release. “We appreciate their co-operation in providing us with timely information which is crucial in helping solve crime.”

Officers reunited all property with the rightful owners.
