Victoria and Capital Regional District area employers are optimistic about the hiring climate for the second quarter of 2017, according to the latest ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey.
“Survey data reveals that 20 per cent of employers plan to hire for the upcoming quarter [April to June], while three per cent anticipate cutbacks,” said Jeff Polkinghorne of Manpower’s Vancouver office. Another 77 per cent of employers plan to maintain their current staffing levels in the upcoming quarter.
“With seasonal variations removed from the data, Victoria’s second quarter Net Employment Outlook of 12 per cent is a 10 percentage point decrease when compared to the previous quarterly Outlook,” said Polkinghorne. “
It is also an increase of one percentage point from the Outlook reported during the same time last year, indicating a respectable hiring pace for the upcoming months.”
“Nationally, the second quarter of 2017 is expected to see modest gains for Canadian job seekers,” said Darlene Minatel, vice-president for Manpower Canada operations and strategic accounts.
“Many companies, especially in the manufacturing sector, are taking a cautious approach until they see what effect political changes in the United States will have on the Canadian economy.”
