On March 5, at approximately 7:37 p.m., 100 Mile House Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire located at Highland Crescent in the Imperial Ranchettes. Upon arrival, 100 Mile House Fire Rescue Crews observed a fully involved structure located at the rear of the residence. Lone Butte Fire Department was called to assist with water supply. 100 Mile House Fire Rescue Crews were able to extinguish the out-building fire which was completely destroyed. There were no injuries to occupants of the home or any of the Firefighters. Crews remained on scene for approximately two hours.

The cause of the fire is believed to have started from a previous fire that the home occupant started days before. This open burning fire was able to make it underground and subsequently ignite the structure from underneath days later. The fire was also in a heavily forested backyard with many trees a few feet away from the primary residence. If not for the quick observations from the neighbours and fast response from crews, the fire could have spread to the home.
