Students take to the streets to protest government actions

Rallies call for increased support for teachers and education system

North Okanagan students say their voice is important.

Students left classes at W.L. Seaton, Kalamalka and Vernon secondaries Friday to show support for teachers and to protest what they believe is inadequate government funding for education.

“As students, we see the affects of what the government is doing,” said Wesley Shaver, who is in Grade 12 at Seaton.

Among the students’ concerns are large class sizes and not enough resources for programs.

“We want to show we care. We’re being directly affected,” said Shaver.
