Students of the inaugural CityStudio Abbotsford showcased their projects at Abbotsford City Hall last week.

CityStudio is a partnership program between the City of Abbotsford and the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) in which university students tackle civic issues and prototype solutions as part of their university degree program curriculum.

Five UFV degree programs participated in CityStudio Abbotsford project between January and April 2018.

Students were tasked with developing ways to reduce litter, boost engagement in municipal affairs, increase the visibility of public art, promote the use of public spaces and foster pride in local neighbourhoods.

The next CityStudio Abbotsford program will start in summer 2018.

“All of these projects are examples of real challenges in our community and it is great to see the innovative solutions and ideas come to life,” Mayor Henry Braun said in a press release. “From displaying approaches to reduce litter in our parks and enhancing our public art, to finding alternative ways to engage with our residents, these projects have been truly inspiring and exciting to be a part of.”
