It could be lights, camera, action at a vacant Vernon building.
A Prairie-based company is considering turning the former Far West building on Highway 6 into a production studio for films and TV.
“It’s a perfect space,” said Jon Summerland, with the Okanagan Film Commission.
“You can have visual effects and animation there because it’s wired for everything.”
Brian Quiring, a Vernon councillor and OFC director, is confident the project will proceed.
“I hope there will be a lot of economic benefit and we will see a permanent studio in Vernon,” he said.
Along with the significant space inside the building, the property also has sufficient parking and other adjacent structures.
“It’s a huge opportunity for us. You could fill the other buildings around it,” said Summerland.
Little is being said about the filming the Prairie company may do here, but there is the possibly of six movies.
“This company does TV series and if they do a series, that’s seven to eight months a year,” said Summerland of crew living and working here.
Part of the demand for TV shows is being driven by new entertainment outlets.
“Netflix, Amazon and Shomi are desperate for space,” said Summerland.
