Cooler temperatures and increased rainfall has seen the drought level in the Cowichan Valley and eastern Vancouver Island downgraded to Level 2.
As a result, water restrictions that have been in place for most of the summer have also been downgraded, and have returned to Stage 1.
Stage 1 water restrictions include limiting lawn-sprinkler use from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., or 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., on even days for even-numbered houses and on odd days for odd-numbered houses, to a maximum of two hours a day.
The washing of houses, driveways and sidewalks is also now permitted.
While the majority of municipal and Cowichan Valley Regional District water users are now on Stage 1 water restrictions, the Mill Bay Waterworks District and the CVRD’s Woodley Range water systems remain at Stage 3.
