Unlike the Wednesday fire at the municipal landfill, the one was quickly extinguished. Firefighters were called to the intersection of Princeton-Summerland Road and McKlennan Road at about 2 p.m. for the fire, which reportedly burned about half an acre of grass beside the road before it was extinguished.

The fore cast is for a hot dry weekend in the South Okanagan, with temperatures hitting a possible 33 C. The heat will persist into the long weekend as will the smokey skies and the B.C. Wildfire Service is asking the public to exercise caution and even urging holiday travellers to stay home.
