While police in Summerland had roughly the same total calls for service in 2020 as in 2019, the number of violent crimes increased while property crimes decreased slightly.
The policing stats, from the Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen Regional Detachment of the RCMP were presented to the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen on Feb. 4.

Throughout the year, the Summerland RCMP detachment received 2,815 calls, almost unchanged from the 2,802 calls for service in 2019.
However, violent crimes were up by 33 per cent.
Assaults and sex offences both showed increases of 13 per cent in 2020. The number of cases of uttering threats rose by 105 per cent, from 21 incidents in 2019 to 43 incidents in 2020.
Domestic violence incidents showed a 12 per cent decrease in 2020.
The total number of property crimes in Summerland decreased by eight per cent in 2020. However, there were two areas where property crimes increased.
The number of business break and enters rose by 77 per cent, from 26 in 2019 to 46 in 2020. The number of frauds rose by 20 per cent, from 40 in 2019 to 48 in 2020.
Auto thefts fell by 25 per cent and bicycle thefts fell by 53 per cent in 2020. Residential break and enters dropped by 14 per cent and all other break and enters fell by 44 per cent.
The number of shoplifting incidents fell by 30 per cent over the year.
