Summerland to develop code of ethics for staff

One-page values document will serve to guide municipal staff

The senior management team at the municipality of Summerland is working on a code of ethics for all staff at the municipality.

“The document speaks to the values of how we do our work, and effectively codifies what I see to be the good practices performed by staff everyday who are in the public service of the district,” said Graham Statt, chief administrative officer with the municipality.

The code of ethics will be a one-page values document, not a full code of conduct. It will outline the processes used by staff in their role of serving the public.

“How we do our work should always be governed by values in public service,” Statt said. “The process is as important if not more important than the outcome.”
