Campers aren’t the only ones facing an urban problem as they seek a rural retreat.
Ridge Meadows Search and Rescue can encounter the same problems on their way back and forth from Golden Ears Provincial Park which is jam-packed on sunny weekends, often leading to closures when the parking lots get filled.
Search crews had just responded to call about a man in medical trouble at about 4 p.m. Sunday at East Canyon road, and were waiting in traffic to leave the park, when someone came up to their truck and told them about a man with a possible broken leg in Gold Creek. Crews pulled a U-turn and found the man on the creek bank with a fractured knee cap. The man was transferred by stretcher to a waiting ambulance in the Gold Creek parking lot.
Search and rescue spokesman Rick Laing said search crews are usually able to navigate through heavy park traffic during busy times with the assistance of Alouette Park Management, which can hold up traffic and create a path way into the park for emergency vehicles. So far, construction on 232nd Street and Fern Crescent, doesn’t seem to have affected traffic, he added.

Over the weekend, the park had to close for a few hours again on Sunday, because of packed parking lots. The park then re-opened later that day as people started to leave the park.
All three campgrounds are now full, said Alouette Park Management Monday morning, although there could be a few vacancies on Tuesday.
