A shift in leadership is underway at the North Okanagan-Shuswap School District.
Doug Pearson will retire as the longtime superintendent Aug. 31, while Dave Witt, assistant superintendent, will move into the position.
“Doug has been a very important part of the district for 16 years,” said Bobbi Johnson, boardchairperson.
“His retirement is going to be a huge loss for our school district. We have valued his advice and guidance through the many difficult situations we have faced. His experience and expertise has always helped the district do what is best for the students of our entire district.”
Witt has been a director and assistant superintendent with the district since 1999.
“The board is very happy that Dave accepted our offer. We know he is the best fit for the job,” said Johnson.
“He knows the district, works well with our staff, is very thoughtful and will provide, I’m sure, a very smooth transition.”
Pearson — who spent three years as an assistant superintendent and 16 years as superintendent in the district — says he can’t think of a better place to end his career.
“I feel privileged and honoured to have worked with such supportive and talented central staff over the years, whom I greatly respect. They are always thinking of students first and give generously of their time,” he said.
“The entire district is replete with outstanding educators and support staff who have definitely made my job easier and fun. I appreciate the school and district administrators for putting up with my sense of humour, questioning directions and working with me to make this district a great place to learn and grow, both for students and staff,” he said.
