A Surrey Mountie found guilty of gun possession charges has been given a conditional discharge, and put on 18 months probation.
In January, Surrey RCMP Const. David Matthew Clarke was found guilty of two gun possession charges stemming from a search of his home six years ago.
In October 2010, Clarke owned a home in Chilliwack and lived in a rented basement suite in Cloverdale. His girlfriend lived in the Chilliwack home with her kids.
After a dispute with him, she called Clarke’s supervisor, which eventually led to a search of the Chilliwack home, of which she gave consent.
In that home, RCMP found an FN FAL semi-automatic rifle and a Remington Colt semi-automatic handgun.
Clarke was sentenced on April 25, and given a conditional discharge, put on 18 months probation and prohibited from possessing a firearm for five years.
