SURREY — Surrey RCMP charged a Surrey woman with a string of crimes after finding her sleeping inside a stolen car in Whalley.
Laetitia Acera, 22, has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime, resisting or obstructing a peace officer and four counts of breaching court undertakings. She was held in custody pending her court appearance Wednesday.
Police said the suspect was found sleeping inside the car, in the 11800-block of 103A Avenue, at about 4 a.m. July 21st.
Later that same morning, at about 11:30 a.m., Surrey Mounties found a stolen car in the 13700-block of 88th Avenue and followed it by helicopter to a shopping centre in Whalley.
“Officers arrested the driver who was found to be breaching his conditions,†Sgt. Dale Carr said. “A search of the suspect and the stolen vehicle located a number of pieces of stolen property along with a large knife and a small amount of methamphetamine.â€
Terry Zimmerman, 51, of Delta is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property under $5,000, possession of a controlled substance, breaching his probation and breaching a court undertaking. He is being held in custody pending his court appearance on Aug. 13th.
Cpl. Scotty Schumann said Surrey RCMP’s property crimes investigators have in recent months targeted a “number of known offenders found to be in possession of large amounts of stolen property.â€
Between July 16th and July 23rd, he said, the Surrey RCMP recovered 61 stolen vehicles, 58 of which had been stolen in Surrey.
