A Whalley house has “extensive damage,” according to firefighters, after a fire Friday afternoon (Sept. 25).
Steve Serbic, assistant chief of operations with Surrey Fire Service, said crews were called to the house in the 10600-block of 132nd Street around 12:30 p.m.
He said the fire started in the basement and there were “visibility issues” from the smoke as crews were going in.
A Black Press Media freelancer on scene there was “heavy smoke” when crews arrived and 132nd Street was closed for a period.
Investigators were still on scene around 4 p.m., said Serbic, adding that there is structural damage and “some of the joists burned through.” The cause hasn’t been determined yet.
He said there was only one resident at the home when crews arrived.
Serbic added there were no injuries reported.
