Surrey murder suspect captured in California charged in double stabbing in Maple Ridge

Brandon Teixeira caught last month in California, charged with murder in Surrey

A Surrey murder suspect who was captured in California last month is also facing charges for a double stabbing in Maple Ridge.

Brandon Nathan Teixeira has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault for the violent incident in Maple Ridge on Aug. 23, 2015.

At 2:30 a.m., two people were stabbed outside of the Haney Public House, and one of the victims was in critical condition, according to Ridge Meadows RCMP. The suspect fled the scene, but police obtained video of him.

The charges were sworn on Dec. 5 in Port Coquitlam provincial court.

Teixeira is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the October 2017 shooting death of Nicholas Khabra in South Surrey. He was arrested Dec. 1 in California.

He is also charged with attempted murder and discharging a firearm with intent to wound or disfigure.

The new charges were sworn on Dec. 20, and are in connection with an Oct. 23, 2017 incident – the same date that Khabra was shot to death, and a woman who U.S. court documents describe as Khabra’s girlfriend was also shot.

According to U.S. District Court documents, the killing was motivated by revenge and an alleged $160,000 bounty.

After an extensive manhunt, Teixeira was apprehended in a dramatic arrest that saw the fugitive allegedly ram an armoured car with his own vehicle, then attempt to escape on foot before behind apprehended by a Butte County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit.

Homicide investigators described Teixeira as “extremely violent” and a “significant” risk to public safety.

He remains in custody in the U.S. A conference regarding extradition proceedings has been scheduled for Jan. 30.

Surrey court officials say there are currently seven warrants issued for Teixeira.

In addition to the three counts covered by the Dec. 20 information, there are warrants for aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a weapon, uttering threats and breach of bail conditions. Those offences occurred between June 26, 2016 and July 12, 2018.

Ricky Korasak and Shawn Corbett also face accessory charges in relation to the Maple Ridge attempted murder.
