Surrey welcomes first New Year’s baby in Fraser Health

Manpreet and Ovinder Atwal celebrated the arrival of their third child early on New Year’s Day.

Abhay Singh Atwal, was the first child born in 2017 in the Fraser Health Authority, arriving at 12:27 a.m. on Jan. 1 at Surrey Memorial Hospital. He weighed in at 3,672 grams (eight pounds, one ounce).

Although his original due date was Jan. 14, according to his mother Manpreet, “he was apparently excited for the new year as well.”

Mother and child were released from hospital on Jan. 2 and are enjoying their first few days at home.

The baby boy has two siblings, Arjun and Balbhag Atwal.
