Suspect arrested after stolen vehicle located in the BX

RCMP officers were almost forced off the road after trying to stop a stolen vehicle.

On Saturday at about 12:31 p.m., the police received a report of a stolen truck being seen on 25th Avenue and heading towards Francis Street in Vernon.

“Someone knew the vehicle had been stolen and called it in,” said Gord Molendyk, detachment spokesperson.

Officers located the truck speeding down Hartnell Road in the BX and the driver tried to run the officers off the road.

Evasive action was taken to prevent a collision.

“They pulled over to the side of the road and stopped,” said Molendyk.

“There was no chase involved.”

A spike belt was deployed but the truck crashed in the ditch at Hartnell and Dixon Dam roads just before the belt.

“The truck is damaged but I am not sure to what extent,” said Molendyk.

Two suspects fled the vehicle on foot but an officer eventually located and arrested a 21-year-old Vernon man. He was taken to hospital to have his injuries from the accident treated.

The second suspect has been identified but not arrested.

“This file is still under investigation, with possible charges to be laid at a later date,” said Molendyk.

The truck was stolen in Lumby Aug. 22.
