A man who Mounties suspected in a debit machine scam last week was just doing his job.
Ridge Meadows RCMP issued a warning about the man on Friday, a day after a Maple Ridge dance school complained about an encounter with a suspicious debit machine technician.
The man’s credentials were questioned after the school’s reception called the company he claimed to be working for, but was told there were no services personnel in Maple Ridge that evening.
Since the warning, police have been contacted by the man and his credentials have been checked out.
Insp. Derren Lench said the credentials are legitimate.
“I want to thank a number of our businesses for showing due diligence in contacting our office, and assisting us in verifying who this individual is,” Lench added.
“At the time we issued the alert, we were concerned that this individual may be interested in compromising debit card machines for an illegal purpose. I can now say that the man is in fact employed by a company that services debit card machines, and he is not a person of interest anymore.”
