Vernon RCMP officers, with help from a specialized drug team from the Lower Mainland, were investigating a suspected drug lab in a home in the middle of the city Friday.

Police, along with Vernon Fire Rescue Services members, converged on one side of a duplex in the 1700 block of 41st Avenue at around 2:30 p.m.

“I can confirm that officers are conducting a search of a residence that is a suspected drug lab,” said Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk late Friday afternoon.

“Things are still very much in the preliminary stages of the investigation. It would appear officers could be searching there for awhile.”

Three people were inside the duplex when officers arrived. They were taken into custody.

One neighbour said the occupants had been at the home “for a couple of months,” and “never considered them to be a problem.”

The firefighters were on hand, called by RCMP, in case their assistance was needed.
