Suspects elude police

RCMP would like to remind the public that when reporting crimes, it is crucial to report as soon as possible.

On Tuesday, March 31, Midway RCMP members assisted Osoyoos RCMP in the search for suspects who had been seen in two stolen vehicles and fled on foot into the woods near Mt. Baldy. According to Midway police, five detachments in all provided assistance.

Despite an extensive search using a police helicopter and two dog units, the suspects were not located. Two stolen pickups were recovered, one having been stolen from Midway earlier that day. The investigation is ongoing, and two suspects have been identified.

Also on Tuesday, March 31, Emcon Services reported to police that someone dumped a large amount of oil at the Beaverdell Dump. It is unknown who dumped the oil, but police would like to remind citizens to be mindful of the environment and dispose of waste in the proper manner.

On Wednesday, April 1, Midway RCMP received a report of a break-and-enter to a rural property on Hwy 33. An outbuilding was broken into and some tools were taken. Police have received numerous reports of multiple break-ins in the area in recent months. Midway detachment said that although suspects have been identified, the matter is still under investigation.

Also on Wednesday, April 1, Midway RCMP received a report from a female who lives in the Mt. Baldy area, reporting that sometime between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. on March 31, her white Dodge Ram pickup truck had been stolen from her residence. The female said she waited until the following day to report her truck, as she knew the police were busy looking for someone on Mt. Baldy at the time. The Midway RCMP would like to remind the public that when reporting crimes, it is crucial to report as soon as possible, as any delays can hinder investigations.

On Friday, April 3, Midway RCMP received a report of a stolen auto in Greenwood. The vehicle was the second auto in a week to be stolen from the same residence. The first auto had been left unlocked with the keys to both vehicles inside, and it is assumed the thief came back and used the key to steal the vehicle. Midway RCMP recovered the vehicle on Monday, April 6. The investigation is ongoing.

Also on Monday, April 6, Midway RCMP responded to an assault in Beaverdell. A female is reported to have assaulted a second female. Midway detachment reports that most of the witnesses had left prior to police arrival and the matter is still under investigation.
