Sooke Fire and Rescue crews extracted a man from an upside-down SUV on Wednesday morning, after it flipped on top of another vehicle near a scrap yard on Marilyn Road near Sooke River Road.
The driver of the white Ford Explorer, who was the sole occupant, was extracted from the vehicle and was treated for any injuries by paramedics at the scene, said Sooke RCMP Const. Andrew Moore.
A worker from an adjacent auto shop said he heard an “explosion” outside, and became more alarmed when he noticed the hydro wires were pulled out from the side of the building.
“He came to dump some brush, then he hit the gas pedal so hard and hit that gate so high that it hit the hydro lines. I thought lightning hit it at first,” said another witness, adding that following the impact, the SUV flipped onto a parked red Nissan SUV.
There were no occupants in the other SUV and no one else was injured.
Moore said alcohol was not a factor in the accident, though an investigation into the cause is ongoing.
