SUV smashes into Maple Ridge long-term care building

Happened at new Urgent and Primary Care Centre

An out-of-control vehicle smashed into a window and wall of the CareLife Building at Ridge Meadows Hospital late Wednesday.

The vehicle went from the parking lot into one of the windows of the Urgent and Primary Care Centre, located on the ground floor of the building, at about 10:15 p.m.

The primary care centre just opened in October, next to the hospital, in Maple Ridge.

Fraser Health spokesperson Tasleem Juma however, said that the centre will remain open as repairs are made and will keep its regular evening hours from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

She said no one was injured in the collision.

The Urgent and Primary Care Centre opened in early October, the 12th to do so across the province.

The centre offers treatment for non-emergency health issues, everything from sprains and minor cuts, to infections, fevers, sore throats and ear aches. Mental health and substance abuse counselling, home health care and referrals to family doctors or nurses are also available at urgent and primary care centres.
