Takla Landing RCMP called on search and rescue resources from the Fort on Tuesday evening, after a snowmobiler was reported missing.
The snowmobiler hadn’t been seen for over 48 hours and was out in the Omineca River area, northeast of Takla Landing.
Family members believed the person to be broken down when he didn’t return on time, but were unable to locate the person due to the heavy, wet spring snow conditions.
Upon the report, the RCMP in Takla requested Fort St. James Search and Rescue (FSJSAR) assistance at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
According to a Fort St. James Search and Rescue release, resources were rounded up and readied to be deployed but due to the later hour, the air search started the next day at first light.
So on Wednesday, April 27, just before 6 a.m., an air search left the Fort St. James Pierson Airport.
Searchers began at an area they believed the most likely place for the snowmobiler to have been, and the person was located in good condition the same day.
FSJSAR member Paul Broen was one of the searchers who located the man and said he had taken shelter in a building on the banks of the Omineca River and had been hunting while awaiting rescue.
