Tattersall Drive is officially closed for summer.

Crews shut down the road yesterday (Tuesday) morning to begin a lengthy upgrade project that will include both surface and subterranean changes to the roadway, between Saanich Road and Quadra Street.

Project superintendent Todd Mizuik said workers were expected to be out last week, but Saanich staff was still vetting the environmental management plan, traffic management plan and an arborist plan.

“It’s a week that we’d love to have had (for construction), but it was a week that was necessary that all were happy with the end result,” he said.

Between 20 and 35 workers will be on site each day.

The full closure is expected to end by Labour Day, when the road should reopen to single lane alternating traffic until November.

Local traffic and pedestrians will still have access to Tattersall.
