A teen has been terminated from employment at an indoor gymnasium in Surrey after she was recorded texting on her phone while a girl was crying for help.

A 55-second Youtube video shows a girl climbing an indoor rock wall while an employee, who was supposed to be watching her, looked down at her phone.

At one point, it appears as though the little girl is stuck, but the employee continues to use her phone.

The girl’s mother took video and posted it to Facebook and the video was circulated.

Hamed Reddy, manager of Funtopia, said he saw the video Thursday and found it disturbing. He called the employee in to the North Surrey business immediately and fired her.

Asked if she had any explanation, such as a family emergency, Reddy said “no.”

The girl, who had worked at Funtopia for about six months, understood and left.

“As far as we’re concerned, she broke a lot of rules of ours,” Reddy said Friday. “It was a safety issue, and she was terminated immediately.”

Funtopia has been in North Surrey since last June and Reddy said business been booming.
