A 16-year-old girl was taken to a Vancouver-area hospital with a concussion and a broken leg after she was struck by a vehicle in Abbotsford on Sunday night.
The collision took place at about 9 p.m. in the 1900 block of Peardonville Road in rural west Abbotsford.
Const. Ian MacDonald said the girl was rollerblading side by side with her friend at the time, in an area that is dark and has no sidewalk. Neither girl was wearing a helmet, he said.
The 24-year-old male driver of the 2007 Nissan Altima involved in the collision remained at the scene and is co-operating with police.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor, and police are continuing to investigate to determine whether other factors – such as speed – were involved.
Collision reconstructionists from the Abbotsford Police Department were called out, and the road was closed to traffic for several hours from the Marshall Road exit to just north of King Road.
