Teen stabbing suspect remains in custody

The 15-year-old girl made a court appearance in Vernon Provincial Court Monday, and was remanded in custody.

The youth was then transferred to a detention centre in the Lower Mainland.

She will make her next appearance by video on Sept. 7.

A 16-year-old girl was stabbed twice in the park at around 8:15 p.m. Aug. 21. Witnesses reported seeing two girls arguing.

The victim was stabbed in the stomach and back, and remains in stable condition in Kelowna General Hospital.

The suspect fled the scene, and a 15-year-old girl was arrested in Salmon Arm, following tips from the public, on Aug. 24.

Police have not been able to speak to the victim to determine what the dispute in the park was about.

A knife used in the stabbing has not been recovered.
