Temperatures in the teens – in December?
You betcha.
Last week saw Salmon Arm break two temperature records, according to Environment Canada.
On Wednesday, Dec. 10 the new record high temperature of 13.5 degrees was reached, followed by another record high on Friday, Dec. 12 when the temperature got up to 8.4 degrees.
“It’s certainly a departure from the norm,” said Doug Lundquist, a meteorologist with Environment Canada. “Records have been broken all over the region.”
As for what the Shuswap can expect heading into Christmas, Lundquist says it is still early to predict, but a green Christmas is not out of the question.
“There is going to be another warming trend just before Christmas, but Christmas Eve it should be cooling off,” says Lundquist. “So there’s still a bit of hope for a white Christmas, if it cools down soon enough. I’m not making any promises at this point though.”
