Monday is forecast to be warm, but the mercury looks set to rise much higher by midweek.
Temperatures are expected to soar into the mid=30s in the Fraser Valley this week, with Environment Canada suggesting Abbotsford could see the mercury rise to 36 C by Thursday.
Monday’s high is forecast to be 29, launching a string of days above 30. Temperatures are predicted to hit 32 on Tuesday and 34 on Wednesday, before topping out on Thursday. Next weekend is forecast to be only slightly cooler, with temperatures in the low-30s.
A special weather statement remains in effect for the region, with Environment Canada saying temperature records are likely to fall.

The Weather Network, however, says Thursday’s high could be 41 C and feel like 44.
The extreme heat is bringing the usual warnings: Leave your pets at home, and check on your neighbours if they’re older and live alone.
