Tennis club trashed

Police continue their investigation into a break-in and vandalism at the Salmon Arm Tennis Club clubhouse.

About 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, police responded to an enquiry as to whether a sanctioned event was being held at the clubhouse, because there were lights on, music playing and young people smoking and drinking.

There wasn’t such an event – and when club officials arrived, the building was badly damaged.

“They took our fire extinguisher and emptied it into every nook and cranny of the building,” says club president Marianne VanBuskirk.

Repairing the damage cost about $2,000. Because there is an access code to get in, whoever did the damage may have known the code or managed to obtain it.

“We’re not saying it’s a club member. Whoever broke in, they did know the combination,” she said, adding that it’s possible the top gate may have been left open or the lock wasn’t completely in place.

Anyone with information may call the Salmon Arm detachment at 250-832-6044.
