A TERRACE RCMP officer has been charged with assault stemming from the arrest of a young man on May 28, 2014.
Terrace RCMP officer Const. Bruce Lofroth was charged today and makes his first appearance in provincial court here March 7.
An investigation was started in October 2014 after a video of the arrest was made available to The Terrace Standard.
The matter was then referred to the provincial Independent Investigations Office (IIO) which oversees police conduct in B.C.
The IIO investigated and determined the officer may have committed an offence and sent its file to the provincial Criminal Justice Branch which made the charge decision.
The RCMP also ordered its own investigation.
The youth had been charged with assaulting Lofroth but those charges were later dropped.
Lofroth’s duty status was not immediately known.
