Moms Stop the Harm’s (MSTH) Terrace chapter will be organizing an event on International Overdose Awareness Day at George Little Park on Aug. 31.
Lana Greene said that the group is on a mission to grow a network of support systems in Terrace for families who have lost their loved ones to overdose.
The event – to be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. – will include a list of activities including a BBQ lunch at the park.
At the venue, Northern Health will be conducting training on how to administer naloxone. Other service agencies like Kermode Friendship Society and Ksan Society will also join in.
Naloxone kits will also be available for people to take home.
MSTH – a Canada-wide group – has been active in advocating for safe supply, decriminalization of drugs among other issues.
Green, who has been living in Terrace for over five years now, lost her 23-year-old son, TJ, to an overdose in January earlier this year and realized quickly that there wasn’t an adequate support group for mothers like her in Terrace.
Since then she has been on a mission to build an active advocacy group in Terrace.
“MSTH is a Canada-wide group that started in 2016, but it is not an active group in Terrace and I want to build it up so that mothers like me who need the support can find it,” said Greene and added, “International Overdose Awareness day would be a start to bring people together.”
