The RCMP and BC Coroners Service are investigating a fatal train incident that claimed a Terrace woman’s life last week.
In a July 27 media release, the Terrace RCMP said they received a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a train near the area of Kalum Street and Greig Ave, Terrace on July 19. BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) attended at approximately 6:30 p.m.
“When frontline officers arrived they found an unresponsive woman under the train,” said police. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by BCEHS.
Surveillance video revealed the woman walked onto the train tracks and the train was unable to stop prior to the woman being struck.
“While we are continuing to investigate, it does not appear the woman’s death was a result of any criminality,” said Cst. Kelly Cates of the Terrace RCMP.
The BC Coroners Service is also conducting its own investigation around the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
The woman will not be identified, said the police and no further information is available
The RCMP is also asking anyone who may have been a witness or may have dash cam or other video of this incident, and has not already spoken with police to contact the Terrace RCMP at 250-638-7400.
