Terrace RCMP and the BC Coroners Service are investigating a train incident which resulted in the death of a 21-year-old Terrace woman.
According to an RCMP media release, police received multiple emergency calls just after 7 p.m. on May 29, reporting that a woman had been struck by a CN train below the curling rink in the 3100 block of School St.
Officers found the woman unresponsive, laying beside the tracks and BC Emergency Health Services pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
Police say that witnesses reported that the woman was on the tracks and did not move despite repeated train whistle sounds to alert her of the oncoming train. The train could not stop and the woman was struck.
“While we are continuing to investigate, it does not appear the woman’s death was a result of any criminality but rather a tragic accident,” stated S/Sgt. Janelle Shoihet of the BC RCMP, in the release.
The BC Coroners Service confirmed that they are investigating the death, but cannot speculate as to the cause of death or offer any more information at this time.
Police will not be identifying the woman and ask that anyone who was a witness or may have footage of the incident contact Terrace RCMP if they have not already done so.
