Terrace River Kings to open new season at home Oct. 16

Team is looking for volunteers in advance of puck-drop

The Terrace River Kings senior men’s ‘AA’ hockey team are busy looking for volunteers and preparing for the new season, which is now just a month-and-a-half away from puck-drop.

Terrace’s Central Interior Hockey League (CIHL) team will face off against Hazelton in their home and season opener at the Terrace Sportsplex Oct. 16 — a quick turnaround time from the team’s first practice on Oct. 4.

But before the season starts, the team needs to fill some important roles off the ice.

“[We are] mainly just asking for volunteers to help out for this season such as coaches, trainers and equipment managers,” said Ross Smith, River Kings general manager, adding that the team is also looking for new players.

The CIHL cancelled its 2020/21 season due to rising COVID-19 case counts and public health restrictions. This season, all fans, players and staff will need to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination to enter the Sportsplex. That is part of the province’s proof of vaccination requirement which will be in place until Jan. 31, with the possibility of an extension.
