Three members of the Terrace skating club (TSC) claimed gold medals at the group’s first virtual competition Mar. 12 to Mar. 14.

Twenty skaters from Terrace took part in 35 events at the Cariboo North Central Regional Championships, skating away with 14 medals in total.

“Our skaters performed very well at regionals and we are extremely happy with the results. It has been a year since the skaters have last competed but watching them this past weekend you couldn’t tell, they showed up with their best,” said Joanne Bartlett, TSC coach, in a media release.

Ethan Kietzmann, Aaliya Beeton and Maia Guerriero each took home gold at the championships, with both Kietzmann and Beeton also winning bronze medals.

Skaters’ performances were filmed in February here in Terrace and submitted to Skate Canada’s B.C. and Yukon section where they were aired from Mar. 12 to Mar. 14. Judges recorded their scores from their homes and skaters in ranked events were able to see their points on the screen after each performance.

“This has been a tough year amid the COVID-19 pandemic for the skaters, who have had to make adjustments in all areas of their lives, said Bartlett.

“Even through the changing restrictions the skaters have shown up, worked hard, improved, and stayed positive. We are proud of them.”

Several other TSC skaters took home medals at regionals. Makayla Forrest won two silvers, and Teysean Henry and Bailey Bartlett each secured one silver medal each. Camryn Monsen took home two bronze medals, and Maya Lecuyer, Kayeanna Mackenzie and Emily Larmour each won one bronze.

The virtual competition marked the last for Jennifer Kuehne, director of skating, who is moving after years with the Terrace Skating Club as both a skater and a coach.
