JUNE 30
• Columbia Valley detachment received a complaint of damage to a basement window in the area of 5499 block of Dutch Creek Road in Fairmont. The building was not entered.
• A ring was found on Government Street in Windermere. If you lost a ring and can describe it properly, it can be returned to the owner.
• Columbia Valley detachment received a report of a theft of a 16GB iPod from a ’99 GMC Jimmy parked in Fairmont.
JULY 1
• A ’81 Chevrolet truck had its window damaged while parked in the 4700 block of Highway Drive.
JULY 2
• Columbia Valley detachment responded to a single vehicle accident where a ’95 Harley motorcycle failed to negotiate a turn into the Real Storage parking lot in Windermere. The bike slid on loose gravel. The 65 year-old male driver from Calgary was not injured.
JULY 3
• Suspects caused some damage to a fence at Peakes Condos in Radium to gain access to the pool.
• Columbia Valley detachment responded to a two vehicle accident on Hwy 93/95 and Athalmer Road. A black Ford Excursion front end was wrapped around the light standard. This vehicle was driven by a 69 year-old male from the United States. A black ’97 Acura driven by a 30 year-old female from Invermere made a left turn in front of the Ford. The driver of theAcura was charged with fail to yield on a left turn. Injuries were minor in nature and all were released from the hospital.
• Columbia Valley detachment members responded to a disturbance in front of Bud’s Bar at closing time. Police observed that two males were fighting and causing a disturbance. When police intervened a 20 year-old intoxicated male from Radium refused to calm down and co-operate. The male continued his aggressive behaviour, resulting in striking a police officer and kicking another officer. The male was arrested for assaulting the police, causing a disturbance and obstruction. Citizens on scene assisted the police. It’s the second time in two weeks citizens have stepped in to assist in controlling a violent person. The 20 year-old male was held in custody and is to appear in Cranbrook Provincial Court.
JULY 4
• Columbia Valley detachment responded to a single vehicle accident on Hwy 93/95, five kilometres south of Windermere.
A ’97 Ford Focus was southbound and went into the right hand ditch. The vehicle then crossed into the northbound lane and into the opposite ditch, then back up onto the shoulder of the road. The driver stated she was checking a text message on her cell phone.
The 28 year-old driver from Canmore was charged with having no insurance and using an electronic device while driving. One has to appreciate the driver’s honesty. One then has to shake your head and ask, is it worth dying or being responsible for killing someone else because we really had to check those messages right now?
NEW BIKES
Many who witnessed the July 1 parade will have noticed that we now have two new bikes at the detachment thanks to the Invermere Rotary and Windermere Lions clubs donating the money to purchase the them. Our thanks also to Bicycle Works for donating the accessories for the bikes.
