A group of 22 cyclists, including Golden’s Const. Mike Hull, were in Golden on Sept. 13 as part of the annual Cops for Kids ride.
Stopping at Sobey’s in Golden, riders had the chance to meet some local families who have benefited from the work of the riders.
In a welcome speech Mayor of Golden Christina Benty thanked all of the people who made the ride possible, and for the work they are doing to help local children.
“I want to give a huge round of applause for the cyclists who just warmed our hearts by riding in in your uniforms,” she said. “On behalf of the Town of Golden, I want to thank you for making Golden one of your stops, and for being here today.”
Benty extended her thanks to everyone in attendance, and Hull in particular for all he has done.
“Golden has benefited in the last year to the tune of $24,000 in our community because of Cops for Kids,” Benty said. “I especially want to say thank you to Golden’s own Mike Hull. Thank you Mike for doing this. Mike is incredibly committed to raising funds in our community and making sure families have the support they need.”
Benty pointed to the $11,500 which the group has donated for a new pediatric crib at the Golden and District Hospital.
Hull then had the chance to speak to the people who came out for the day.
“This ride, for me, has just been awesome. I have met great people the whole way. It can’t be done without pulling a whole community together and Golden is a perfect sized town. We could not do it without supporters from our community,” he said.
Hull also thanked families who have been helped by Cops for Kids for coming out to the event.
A few families who have been helped stepped up to the microphone to thank all of the riders for what they have done to help their children and what they are continuing to do.
“I wanted to say thanks to everybody for what they have done and I am very proud to be from Golden,” Hull said.
