The Campbell River Mirror brought home Gold at the 2014 British Columbia and Yukon MA Murray Community Newspaper Awards on Saturday night.
The Newspaper Excellence Award is the highest achievement a community newspaper can receive at the provincial level. The Mirror won in the Category E (28-001-47-000) circulation class.
Judges scored on a variety of categories including front page, community news content, editorial and opinion, local features, sports, arts and entertainment overall design and appearance, photography, production quality, advertising content and design and classified advertising.
The MA Murray judges had this to say about the Campbell River Mirror: “The Mirror provides a very stylish and comprehensive look at its community, and in doing so, serves its market very well. It is in every sense a strong community newspaper that attracts good advertising support. Excellent photography and good listings of local events. The Mirror is Built to last.”
This is the second major award the Mirror has brought home to Campbell River this year. Earlier this month the Canadian Newspaper Awards announced the Mirror earned first place among all community newspapers in Canada for Young Reader Engagement Initiative with the weekly feature “Carihi Mirror“.
