The health benefits of dogs

The Kelowna library is hosting a discussion on the topic of the psychological benefits of spending time with dogs this evening

It’s long been known that dog’s are a human’s best friend, so it should come as no surprise that there are many benefits of spending time with dogs

The Kelowna library is hosting a discussion on the topic of the psychological benefits of spending time with dogs this evening, as part of Psychology Month in B.C.

Dr. Kim Dawson will be hosting the talk from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Kelowna Branch of the Okanagan Regional Library.

The talk is part of a province-wide series of talks hosted by the BC Psychological Association (BCPA) in an attempt to raise awareness of the role psychology plays in people’s lives.

The Mental Health Commission of Canada estimates the economic burden of mental illness at more than $50 billion per year while the Public Health Agency of Canada estimates that one in five Canadians will face a psychological disorder in their lifetime. Mental illness is estimated to account for 30 per cent of short and long term disability claims.

Dr. Dawson’s dicusson on Monday evening is free to attend.
