Do you know someone who makes a positive contribution to our community? The Revelstoke Review wants to know who they are.

Today, we are launching our first ever Community Leader Awards in order to recognize the people who make a positive impact on the community and help make Revelstoke a better place to live. This isn’t just for volunteers — it’s for anyone you think makes a difference through the course of their work.

Nominate your community leader by filling out the form on page 12 and including a short explanation of why you think they’re worthy. You can also respond online at surveymonkey.com/r/6WKJNXN.

A committee will go through the nominees and the winners will be announced at the end of June.

We are looking for nominess in 10 categories:

Coach: An individual that makes a positive contribution to their sport by fostering skills and confidence and high athletic achievement  in their players.

Mentor: A community leader such as a counsellor, teacher or educator who provides support or sponsorship, inspirational motivation and is an ethical and professional role model.

Courage: An individual who has inspired those around them by overcoming challenges and adversity on the road to success.

Above and beyond: Someone who goes beyond the requirements of their job to make a positive contribution to their community.

Emergency Service: An emergency responder who has gone over and above the call of duty, selflessly accepting the risks of their job.

Volunteer: This individual makes a positive contribution to the community by volunteering their time to a variety of causes.

Youth volunteer: A person under 21 years of age who volunteers their time and makes a positive impact to the community.

Environmental leader: Someone who inspires others to be “green” by championing environmentally sustainable causes and projects.

Community Builder: Someone who has organized local residents in a new community project or event in order to foster participation and result in a more engaged community.

Organization: This business or community group goes above and beyond to serve the its members, customers and/or the community to make Revelstoke a better place to live.
