Don’t forget to vote for Clinton’s 2017 Citizen of the Year
The Spirit of Clinton Committee is now accepting nominations for the 2017 Citizen of the Year, but votes will only be accepted by the Village until 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31. If you have not already cast your vote, be sure to do so before the deadline.
To nominate a candidate for 2017 Citizen of the Year, you may drop off your nomination at the Village Office, located at 1423 Cariboo Highway. Be sure to include the name of your nominee, and his or her address and phone number. Don’t forget: you’ll need to include your own name and contact information, too, just in case the committee needs to get in touch. Be sure to seal your envelope and mark it “Citizen of the Year”.
Soccer registration at David Stoddart School
It’s that time of year again, when students and parents alike begin gearing up for the soccer season!
Soccer registration for Clinton students will be held at the David Stoddart School library on Thursday, February 8 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The fee for U7 registration is $75, while the U10–U16 registration fee is $100. A $50 uniform deposit is also required, and must be given as a cheque; the deposit will not be cashed unless the uniform is not returned, or is returned in a damaged state.
A $75 volunteer fee will also be required, as two hours of volunteer work are necessary per family during the soccer season.
The season itself is scheduled to start on April 9—weather permitting—and will run until the end of June. For those who may be in need of financial assistance with their registration fees, please do not hesitate to contact the South Cariboo Minor Soccer Association’s president, Lee Hand, at leehand@telus.net.
Another “Paint & Sip Party” scheduled for February
On Wednesday, February 21, a “Paint & Sip Party” will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Clinton. After two successful “Paint & Sip” events in 2017, a third has been organized by Legion Branch #194.
The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. on February 21, but the deadline to apply for registration is Monday, February 19, as there is a maximum limit of 15 guests for the “Paint & Sip Party”. The registration fee for this event will be $40, and those attending have been asked to bring along a black permanent marker or sharpie.

If you own a business or operate a not-for-profit group within the Village of Clinton or surrounding area, Wendy Coomber will be happy to help you fill out and complete your Red Cross Wildfire Recovery applications.
Coomber is contracted by Community Futures to assist residents with this free service. For those in need of any assistance with their applications, please do not hesitate to contact Coomber by email at wendy@cfsun.ca. The deadline to receive applications for this funding is Friday, April 6, 2018.
Free Income Tax Preparation Clinic offered in Clinton
“Tax Time” is sneaking up again. Fortunately, Clinton residents will have many opportunities to get their taxes filed, and with plenty of help, too.
Did you know that volunteers from the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program can prepare and electronically file your tax return for you, free of charge?
The free 2017 Income Tax Preparation Clinic will be held every Tuesday at the Clinton Library, 1506 Tingley Street, from March 6 to April 30, 2018. The clinic will run from 12:30 to 4:00 p.m. each Tuesday, and most people should expect to have their taxes e-filed that same day, as the clinic’s goal is to save clients time by getting their returns back as soon as possible.
The event has been organized by the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) in collaboration with the Canada Revenue Agency. The objective of the CVITP is to help eligible individuals who are unable to prepare their income tax and benefit returns alone.
This is a wonderful opportunity for qualifying seniors, students, or low-income residents who may not have experience with filing their own taxes.

Utility bills mailed out
The Village of Clinton has mailed out the 2018 utility bills, covering water and sewer, to all households.
Although full payment is not due until December 31, 2018, residents are reminded that they will receive a five per cent discount on the amount of their utility bill if it is paid by February 28, 2018.
