It was a busy week for Cranbrook RCMP as officers responded to 172 calls for service from Monday, Feb. 16 to Sunday, Feb. 22.

It was a busy week for Cranbrook RCMP as officers responded to 172 calls for service from Monday, Feb. 16 to Sunday, Feb. 22. Staff Sgt. Dave Dubnyk gave a rundown of the past week’s incidents.

February 16

1:03 a.m. Police received a report of domestic dispute. Upon investigation a male was arrested for domestic assault and lodged in cells. A female at the scene was found in possession of a small amount of cocaine. That information has been forwarded to Crown council to decide whether to pursue charges.

3:03 a.m. Report of vandalism at complainant’s residence.

11:14 a.m. Report of a local individual breaching his court-ordered conditions.

11:54 a.m. Report of an assault.

1:18 p.m. Report of a disturbance. The caller said a local individual was throwing things around and threatening to harm themselves. When police arrived things had calmed down and no further problems were reported.

1:56 p.m. Report of suspicious male hanging around Walmart parking lot, possibly checking vehicles. The male could not be located upon police arrival to the scene.

2:50 p.m. A found wallet was turned into the police department.

3:17 p.m. Report of lost licence plate.

4:09 p.m. Break and enter reported at a local residence.

5:40 p.m. Report of a suicidal person. Police attended and spoke the individual. They did not determine the person to be a danger to themselves. The person was taken to be with a family member for the night.

6:18 p.m. Police received a report of assault.

6:26 p.m. Report of a single vehicle accident, where a vehicle hit a deer.

7:11 p.m. Police were called to remove an unwanted patron from a liquor establishment.

8:41 p.m. Police received abandoned 911 call. On followup they discovered it came from a domestic dispute. All was resolved upon police attendance.

9:56 p.m. Police received abandoned 911 and upon arrival one individual was found to be consuming alcohol in breach of their court-ordered conditions. He was arrested and lodged in cells. He has since been released for future court appearance.

10:38 p.m. Report of a domestic dispute. Police attended and there were no further issues.

11:01 p.m. There was a report of two quads driving up and down a residential road.

February 17

12:20 a.m. Report of a single vehicle accident — no injuries.

3:11 a.m. Police received a call about a suspicious vehicle. Vehicle was found unattended. There was some blood around vehicle. On investigation police discovered a person had been assaulted. The matter is under investigation.

9:16 a.m. A local individual failed to appear in court, so a warrant was issued for their arrest.

9:27 a.m. Again, a local individual failed to appear in court and a warrant was issued for their arrest.

9:41 a.m. Report of harassment

9:35 .a.m An individual failed to appear in court and a warrant was issued for their arrest. Staff Sgt. Dubnyk said this is not a common occurrence. “It does happen, but normally we wouldn’t have three like this in one day,” he said. The three instances were unrelated.

10:12 a.m. Report of harassment. The harassment was taking place between an ex-boyfriend and girlfriend on Facebook.

6:57 p.m. Police received a report of intoxicated individuals arguing with and fighting with each other on 17th Avenue. Police attended and the individual on scene. Initially the person was allowed to depart, in the care of a sober individual.  But was he was later arrested and lodged in a cell until sober.

10:04 p.m. Report of a possible impaired driver. The vehicle was located and police found the driver to be impaired by a drug. The driver was issued a 24 hour driving suspension for driving while impaired by drugs. The driver was also found to be breaching parole. The parole was revoked and the individual was taken into custody.

10:20 p.m. Police received report of possible suicidal person. They spoke to the individual and determined the person was not going to harm themselves and will follow up.

11:39 p.m. Domestic dispute call. Upon arrival police found no evidence of an assault. The investigation is ongoing.

February 18

12:38 a.m. Single vehicle accident — one person with minor injuries.

2:39 p.m. A found backpack was turned into police. It contained some cocaine and is under investigation.

4:26 p.m. Request from another detachment to obtain a DNA sample from local individual.

5:45 p.m. Police received report that a patient from the hospital psychiatric unit had walked away. A warrant of apprehension was issued. The subject was located and returned to the hospital without incident.

7:34 p.m. Report  of a fight in progress at a local motel. It had settled down once police arrived, but one individual appeared to be suffering from a drug overdose. The person was taken to the hospital for treatment and Dubnyk said that was the end of police involvement.

9:17 p.m. Report of an overdue traveller. The traveller was later confirmed to have returned home and would call his family to let them know.

February 19

1:25 a.m. Report of a domestic dispute. Police attended and one individual was arrested on assault. They have since been released on a promise to appear at a future court date.

2:40 p.m. Report of vandalism to vehicle.

3:14 p.m. Report of animal abuse.

3:16 p.m. Request from another detachment to obtain a statement from an individual and issue a subpoena on a witness living in Cranbrook.

4:27 p.m. Report of an erratic driver. Police found the vehicle parked and spoke to people at the residence, however were un able to prove who was driving the vehicle.

8:08 p.m. Police were called to check on the well-being of children at a local residence. The children were determined to be fine.

8:44 p.m.  A fight was reported outside a local residence. Police spoke to individuals, but none were cooperative.

February 20

12:31 a.m. A fight was reported behind one of the liquor stores. Police attended and arrested two people and lodged them in cells. One had outstanding warrants. Violation tickets were issued to all parties involved.

2:04 a.m. Driver found with small amount of marijuana after being stopped for suspected impaired driving. The driver was sober, but the marijuana was seized. There was no charge due to the small amount.

11:03 a.m. Report of theft of two picnic tables from the College of the Rockies.

12:58 p.m. Report of a two vehicle accident. Ambulance transported four individuals to hospital with minor injuries.

“It’s not really a police matter, but at the same time we don’t want people to be abandoned out there at this time of year,” Dubnyk said.

4:29 p.m. Police did patrols of King Street after reports of speeding drivers.

February 21

12:11 a.m. There was a single vehicle rollover up Gold Creek Rd. Slippery conditions were determined to be the cause. No injuries were reported.

2:49 a.m. Police pulled over a new driver and issued a 12 hour suspension for alcohol consumption.

3:05 a.m. Reports of an individual following complainant home. The individual was located and lodged in a cell for the night.

3:54 a.m. Report of shots fired. Police attended and found no evidence of shots being fired.

3:38 p.m. Police attended to a local hotel to remove an unwanted guest.

5:40 p.m. Report of a disturbance on the 1400 block of 4th Street N. Police attended and the individuals involved agreed to go their separate ways.

9:13 p.m. Possible suicidal person. Police attended and the person agreed to go to the the hospital by ambulance.

9:42 p.m. An individual was arrested for breaching court ordered conditions.

February 22

1:58 a.m. Report of theft of purse from local liquor establishment.

2:55 a.m. Report of a disturbance at a local liquor establishment. Police attended. There had been a fight and one person was injured as a result. The matter is under investigation.

11:51 a.m. A light bar was stolen off of a vehicle.

12:13 p.m. Request from B.C. Ambulance to help resolve issue.

3:36 p.m. Police requested to check on well-being of individual. Officers couldn’t locate the individual at the residence and the individual has a warrant for arrest. The person may be evading police, said Dubnyk, and further efforts will be made to locate the subject.

4:44 p.m. Report of erratic driver. Police attended and patrolled the area. The vehicle was headed west out of town so the information was passed along to the Creston RCMP to keep an eye out as well.

9:09 p.m. Report of an assault.

11:19 p.m. A caller reports a strong odour of marijuana coming from a room in a hotel.

11:34 p.m. Report of a potentially suicidal person. Police attended the residence and determined the person may be a harm to themselves. The individual was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported to hospital.
