Cranbrook Police responded to 196 calls for service from Monday, July 13 to Sunday, July 19. Staff Sgt. Dave Dubnyk provided the details.
July 13
1:22 a.m. Police received a report of an intoxicated man in front of a local hotel causing problems. Police attended and located the individual, who was taken to a local motel to stay for the night.
8:01 a.m. Reported theft from a local business. It was a suspected internal theft of a significant amount of money. The matter is under current investigation.
8:51 a.m. A small quantity of marijuana was seized from a patient at the hospital. No charges were filed.
9:24 a.m. Two bikes were reported stolen from the 1000 block of 23rd Avenue North. One was a white CCM and the other a red Devinci Frantic.
11:11 a.m. Another bike was reported stolen from the 1000 block of 23rd Avenue — a black Norco Brigade.
2:37 p.m. Police received a report of a person missing from their foster home since July 9. After inquiring around, police located the individual, who was brought home.
3:01 p.m. Whitehorse RCMP requested assistance in checking for a person they suspected was living in Cranbrook. The person did not reside here.
3:47 p.m. A caller reported that two individuals — one on a quad and one on a dirt bike — were driving recklessly through campsites around the Wildhorse Bridge.
5:22 p.m. Report of a traffic hazard on Mission-Wycliffe Road, as several vehicles were slowing down to get a look at a small wildfire in that area.
7:22 p.m. Theft of a bike from the corner of Theatre Road and Cranbrook Street North. The bike was a orange and white Kraken Mountain Bike.
11:12 p.m. A suspicious person was spotted on the 200 block of 23rd Avenue North.
July 14
12:43 a.m. Report of two males walking along the 500 block of 7th Street South checking door handles of vehicles.
7:12 a.m. A suspicious male was reported to be banging loudly on the complainant’s door. When police arrived the man had left and could not be located.
10:48 a.m. Report of a person who was on the ground in front of a business on the 1600 block of Cranbrook Street North. Police located the individual, who was resting while waiting for parents to arrive from outside of town.
9:33 a.m. A traffic hazard was reported — a silver Lincoln with an Ontario licence plate heading towards Cranbrook was driving on a mini spare tire. It also appeared to the caller that the suspension was broken.
11:17 a.m. Illegal dumping was reported on the 3200 block of New Lake Road.
1:45 p.m. Report of a sexual assault.
4:54 p.m. Report of a single vehicle motorcycle accident — both the driver and passenger received non-life threatening injuries.
5:28 p.m. Kelowna RCMP requested assistance in a homicide investigation.
6:29 p.m. Two youths on motorcycles were reported riding and causing damage to a property on Collinson Road.
8:23 p.m. Police were requested to check the wellbeing of an individual at a residence. Police spoke to the individual, who would be contacting the worried family member.
10:39 p.m. Report of a possible impaired driver. The vehicle was a blue sedan with B.C. licence plates driving in the 700 block of Van Horne Street South. Police patrolled but could not locate the vehicle.
10:53 p.m. A caller reported that two small children were near the boat launch at Norbury Lake and worried about their safety.
July 15
5:53 a.m. Report of a domestic dispute. Police attended and found evidence that a female had been assaulted by the boyfriend, who had fled the scene. With the help of a police dog, the man was quickly located hiding in a nearby shed. He was intoxicated, but arrested without incident and held until sober, then released on a promise to appear for a future court date to face possible assault charges.
10:12 a.m. A suspicious person was reported in the 2700 block of 37th Street South.
12:46 p.m. Report of an erratic driver — a grey, class A motorhome towing an SUV with B.C. licence plates passing unsafely.
1:21 p.m. Report of a driver’s side mirror being smashed off in the 500 block of 1st Avenue North.
2:01 p.m. Police responded to an abandoned 911 call. The call turned out to be a family disturbance. All was calm when police arrived.
9:06 p.m. Report of a disturbance on 10th Avenue South.
10:35 p.m. Report of an erratic driver — a white Dodge pickup truck with B.C. Plates took off from a business on Cranbrook Street North driving down the wrong side of the road.
July 16
12:23 a.m. Report of a loud party in the 300 block of 1st Avenue South.
12:36 a.m. Report of a suicidal female. Police attended and spoke to the individual, who willingly went to the hospital for further assessment.
2:18 a.m. BC Ambulance requested assistance in dealing with a male subject that had been badly assaulted and taken to hospital. Police have a possible suspect.
12:45 p.m. A local individual was found in possession of ammunition contrary to a court order. He was arrested and charged.
12:48 p.m. A bright orange Norco Storm mountain bike was reported stolen from Mount Royal Drive.
3:10 p.m. Tires and rims were reported stolen from a vehicle at a local auto body shop.
3:29 p.m. A white Chevy Silverado was reported for erratic driving.
9:26 p.m. Report of assault.
9:35 p.m. A caller worried about a female who had left her residence and had no further contact with her family. Police suspect she travelled to Vancouver. The investigation is ongoing.
July 17
10:38 a.m. Report of a two vehicle accident. No injuries.
1:00 p.m. A purse, found on the road in the 300 block of 4th Street South, was turned in.
3:17 p.m. A caller reported that keys had been taken from a car door while he was unloading groceries.
5:52 p.m. Kamloops RCMP requested assistance in looking into a missing person matter.
6:39 p.m. Request from the hospital to assist in transporting a patient known to be violent.
7:49 p.m. An assault was reported at a local liquor establishment.
11:24 p.m. Report of a male charging at an individual.
July 18
12:40 a.m. BC Ambulance requested assistance with an aggressive patient.
2:37 a.m. An officer arrested an individual for public intoxication and held him in a cell until sober.
3:08 a.m. A loud party was reported on the 800 block of 23rd Avenue South.
9:58 a.m. A Sony Cypershot 12 mp camera was reported stolen from a vehicle on Pinewood Avenue South.
11:25 a.m. A caller reported that camping equipment had been left on his lawn on the 300 block of Hwy 3/95.
3:16 p.m. Report of two Ford Mustangs racing on Van Horne Street.
6:50 p.m. An abandoned 911 call turned out to be a medical issue.
8:45 p.m. A driver reportedly forgot to remove the gas nozzle before driving away from a Jaffray gas station, causing damage to the pump. The vehicle stayed at the scene.
9:28 p.m. Two males were reported on the roof of Amy Woodland School.
9:51 p.m. Report of a lost purse on Wattsville Road.
11:56 p.m. A male was causing a disturbance at a local rural property. Police were called the man was arrested after a physical altercation. Police suspect he was impaired and on drugs. He was released on a promise to appear on police recommended charges.
July 19
7:12 a.m. A caller reported a person sleeping in their vehicle on 1st Avenue South. The person was intoxicated and taken into custody, then picked up by parents once sober.
11:05 a.m. A caller reported that his wallet had fallen off the roof of his car. The wallet was found, but the contents had been stolen.
5:41 p.m. Report of a intoxicated individual laying on the ground near the entrance of a local business. Police took the intoxicated individual into custody and held them until sober.
8:27 a.m. A two vehicle accident occurred on the 1100 block of 2nd Street South. One individual received minor, non life threatening injuries.
9:42 p.m. A single vehicle accident occurred. The vehicle hit an elk. The elk had to be euthanized.
