Does your child use the internet safely?
This is what students, parents and teachers at Fort St. James Secondary School were trying to figure out on June 2.
The presentation was hosted by the Student Voice group at the high school.
The White Hatter, Darren Laur, a retired sergeant from the Victoria Police Department in .B.C, presented two hours of information related to internet safety.
And were the students engaged?
“Wow! Look at these kids,” Fort St. James Secondary School teacher, Gretchen Kitchen said.
For Laur, being all dressed up in white hat and all, is a passion.
“I just want to keep kids safe. This is why I do this.”
The emotional Hater shared his own experience of bullying and how cyberbullying can lead to tragedy.
The White Hatter is highly respected and recently retired Staff Sergeant with the Victoria Police Department.
With over 29 years of policing experience, Laur has dedicated his life to public safety.
He is a certified advanced open source intelligence /social media investigator and has a strong interest on-line and in social media investigations.
Laur continues to present his multi-award winning social media safety presentation to over 360 schools and 275,000 students in Canada and in the United States.
He continues to be an internationally court recognised workplace prevention and self -protection expert and is a published author.
