The Campbell River RCMP continues to respond to complaints of thefts from motor vehicles, Cpl. Poppy Hallam said.
The thieves are not only entering unlocked vehicles but are damaging door locks and in some cases, smashing windows to gain entry. Most of the items stolen consist of small change, electronics, clothing, and in some cases, more valuable items such as an 18 karat gold and two diamond ladies ring valued at $7,800 and a dark blue Cannondale mountain bike valued at over $2,000.
“Of course, if thieves want in, they will smash their way in, so Police are just reminding the public not to leave any valuables, including change, inside their vehicles,” Cpl Hallam said.
Some areas where vehicles have been targeted have been: 2900 block of Apple Drive, 300 block of Candy Lane, 700 block of Bowen Rd, 500 block of Charstate, 600 block of Alpine Road, 500 block of Quadra Avenue, 500 block of Bartlett, 300 block of 4th Avenue, 500 block of South McPhedran, 400 block of Dogwood, 700 block of Gemsbok Drive, 2400 block of Joanne Drive, Ridgeview Drive and Galerno Road.
On Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014 at 5:59 a.m., a resident in the 700 block of Holm Road heard their car alarm activate and looked out to see a male dressed in jeans and a dark coloured jacket walk quickly up their driveway and get into the passenger side of a dark coloured sedan with no headlights on and head east down Holm Road toward Southgate School.
This male was about 20-25 years old and the driver was a male and about the same age. The homeowner’s vehicle lock was damaged which set off their car alarm Police are looking to identify these males.
A residence in the 600 block of Alpine also had their vehicle lock damaged and heard a noise and saw a small white car driving away, possibly involved.
Overnight Dec. 29 into Dec. 30, a vehicle was rummaged through in the 400 block of Carnegie Street and a suspect stole two of the vehicle’s stereo headsets and two DVDs.
Later in the day Dec. 30, those headsets were recovered during the arrest and search of a male for an unrelated outstanding warrant.
That male also had a cheque book belonging to a resident from Cedar Street, stolen from the glove box of their vehicle sometime in the proceeding few days. A 28-year-old Campbell River man will be answering to two charges of possession of property obtained by crime along with other matter he was arrested for.
Then, between 6 p.m. Jan.1, and 12:40 a.m. Jan. 2, someone stole a red tidy tank from a residence in the 2300 block of Quinsam Road.
The tank was dragged out of the yard and holds 612 litres of fuel. The tank is valued at $4,500.
