On July 15, the Oceanside RCMP received a report of a daytime break, enter and theft to a residence at the 300 block of Church Road in Parksville.

The property owner was out of his home from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. When he returned home he noted that a window in the rear of the house had been pried open using a tool from the garden shed. Once inside, the thief stole jewelry and cash before fleeing in an unknown direction.

The Oceanside RCMP called in a forensics specialist and the investigation is ongoing.

With the spell of hot weather, residents are urged to remain vigilant about keeping their doors and windows locked. The RCMP also suggests people consider stowing all tools and objects that could be used by opportunistic thieves in a locked shed.

If anyone observed a suspicious person on or around Church Road at the time of the theft, please contact the Oceanside RCMP or report anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 1(888) 222-8477.
