On December 21, 2011, Barriere RCMP responded to Break and Enter’s at two local businesses in town that had occurred overnight or in the early morning hours.
Sweetnam’s store was broken into with thieves gaining access through the front door. There were numerous items taken including Coca Cola, chocolate bars, fireworks, cash box, and many specialty knives.
The cash register and surveillance system were damaged during the break in, with some information recovered and in police custody. Kamloops Forensic Identification Section attended the scene and gathered evidence in support of the investigation. The knives stolen were very unique and not readily available at other retail outlets.
Crystalee’s Hair Design was also broken into with damage done inside the studio and numerous items stolen including cash and salon items.
The thieves left a message on the sign written with a cigarette that was left at the scene and collected for DNA evidence. Kamloops Forensic Identification Section attended the scene and gathered evidence in support of the investigation.
Barriere RCMP have been given some leads on possible suspects that are being investigated at this time, along with the Forensic Evidence gathered at both scenes.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed any person or person’s outside either location during the night of December 20 to the early morning or December 21 to come forward with the information to the Barriere RCMP Detachment or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
The police want to remind all road users to drive safely, respect other road users, slow down in poor conditions and drive with caution.
