Fences and locks didn’t stop thieves in a few instances of unsolved thefts around Nanaimo over the last week and a half.

Sometime overnight on Monday, thieves cut through a barbed-wire fence to gain access to a property in the 1600 block of Northfield Road, according to an RCMP press release.

“Thieves entered the yard by cutting through barbwire fencing, then destroyed the door to the storage unit, then made off with several thousand dollars in plumbing gear,” noted the release.

On Thursday, suspects cut through a chain-link fence at Tank Traders on Wellington Road and stole 12 propane tanks valued at $600.

Another chain-link fence was cut overnight Jan. 27 at the Chevron cardlock station on Maki Road. Rubber hosing was stolen.

Also on Jan. 27, thieves broke three locks to gain access to a cargo trailer in the 6000 block of Metral Drive, but didn’t steal any of the furniture inside.

As well, locks were cut on at least three sheds in a trailer park Maki Road last week, but no items were reported missing.

Tools and copper were stolen from a work trailer on Galloway Gulch Road on Jan. 25.
